1992 was the year I bought my first van. Zippy. A 1979 red and white Type 2. I had 3 weeks to build it out for a drive to Mexico to document the Day of the Dead celebration in the state of Michoacan. I invited my girlfriend, Lisa Dutton, to come along. Thankfully, she said yes, and we’ve been on the road ever since. We made it in 6 days, no highways, driving at night, hunkered in behind the trucks. If you see their brakelights (If they have brakelights) bounce up and down, you know there’s a speed bump coming up fast. 50,000 plus miles of driving in Mexico has had us in some incredible places throughout Mexico and down into Guatemala. Many stories, locations, people and photos. Returning to the same locations for many years has allowed us to bring back photos and renew connections. A highlight of my life with Lisa. We’re on our 4th van now and continue to seek out the small two lane highways in search of Old growth trees or other elder friends along the way.
