The Mezcalero Project really began with my first sip of Mezcal in Oaxaca in 1992. I’ve been returning to Oaxaca ever since in an effort to seek out the individuals behind the production of this complex spirit. The Palenqueros, those who work to create for brands are often overlooked or passed over in recognition of the brand identity. This work has been used in the La Carta De Oaxaca restaurant in Seattle as decor since 2002 and the Mezcaleria Oaxaca since 2011.
